Overthinking is an issue people deal with on a regular basis. Whether it’s life-altering decisions (i.e. new home, new job) or something as simple as what flavor of drink they’re buying, overthinking can cause issues leading to hesitation.
People start to feel uncertain and overthink to the point of mental paralysis. You want to think about every possible outcome before putting forth a decision, and this leads to inaction.
A recent study completed on this topic states 95% of all decisions are made by our subconscious. For example, you are not going to buy something online based on your subconscious and what it’s telling you. If you feel uncertain, you’re not going to follow through with the decision. It’s important to get out of your head and start using a meaningful strategy to overcome your subconscious mind.
Here is what you have to do.
1) Take Control
The primary motive is to take control of the situation or decision. You have to be ready to start and get going with the decision-making process, or you’ll remain in a rut forever. Don’t be afraid of a wrong decision because everyone makes them. It happens, and you have to be ready to adjust if it comes to that. If you’re unwilling to take control, you’ll never get to the stage of knowing whether you’re right or wrong and that’s worse.
Many entrepreneurs talk about the niche they work in and how they chose to pursue the niche without knowing anything about it. They learned their way through the process because that’s where the money was. They took action and engineered success leading to millions of dollars in profit.
2) Focus Your Mind With A Question
This is a fantastic starting point and an excellent way to interrupt your emotions. If you focus your mind on a simple question such as “What would someone else do in this situation?” you are going to regain value from the situation itself. Too many people ignore this and keep following their emotions until the decision is never made. Don’t let this happen to you and make sure you are focusing your mind on the decision itself.
This mindset is going to lead to success and a decision one way or the other. All it takes is a simple question to understand what is right and what is wrong in a particular situation.
3) Just Do It
Yes, in the end, this is all you are going to need to think about. Don’t hesitate because that is going to lead to minimal success. You will stay in the same spot and often that is far worse than where you started. Even if you fail with a business, you will have learned numerous things along the way, and this will prop you up for future endeavors. Isn’t that the goal at the end of the day? Don’t you want to succeed as a person and as a professional? If you do, you will need to follow the Nike slogan and “Just Do It” because that’s when the results will come in.
Don’t give yourself time to reconsider. Don’t give yourself time to remain uncertain. This is how you will push forward and make the decision that has to be made. If you remain uncertain and let your emotions get in the way, you will hesitate, and that will be the end of everything.
4) Learn To Adapt
Don’t go into a process with any preconceived notions of what will happen or how you’re going to fare. In fact, you want to let things unfold and then adapt as you go. This will do wonders to how you fare and will lead to positive results in the long-term. Many successful people learn to adjust and realize they’re never going to be 100% right, so why waste time hesitating? You are going to be wrong most of the times, but it’s how you adapt that will do wonders.
Those who fail to adapt are the ones who will fail even if they took years making their decision.
You want to be the one who comes in, makes a positive decision, and adapts on the fly as things unfold.
Start now and let others do the overthinking while you dominate.
