What happens to us after we die has confused, terrified and fascinated us at the same time. However, watching a scientist talk about afterlife is rare, but that’s what Neil deGrasse Tyson has done recently in a video full of raw emotion.
Scientists are rational people. They believe in facts, which is why, most of them are considered to have a robotic or cold view of life and death. But with Neil DeGrasse Tyson – it is lot different.
When asked what he believes happens when a human being dies Neil DeGrasse Tyson gave a moving and enlightening answer.
At first he gives a logical and saleable response – that we humans consume food, which helps calories to provide energy and energy further enables us to maintain our body temperature. But how you can maintain a body temperature – 100 degrees – when the temperature around is not the same?
Human beings burn energy to sustain. Biologically, we need a specific body temperature to survive. And that is why we have to eat food. The moment a human being dies, they are incapable of maintaining the energy. Body temperature lowers down to the temperature of the surrounding.
Every molecule in our body is made of energy. So, for example, when a person is cremated, those energies are released from the body and everywhere because of heat. But when a person is buried, his/her bodily energies do not get radiated in the surrounding or air – which is of no use. When a body is buried, the energy is released and consumed by the flora and fauna. In a way, the human body is returned to nature – which defines the Cycle of Life.
Neil DeGrasse Tyson views that humans fear death because they are born knowing nothing but life. He shares that the knowledge of death helps create a focus on being alive. The need for expression, and urgency of accomplishment is the need of the hour.
