What’s the secret of genuinely happy people?

It’s not an easy question to answer.

So, why is it that some people appear happy 24/7?

How do they do it? Do they know some hidden secret that you don’t?

Actually, yes they do!

Contrary to popular belief, it has nothing to do with fame or money.

In fact, research has shown that happiness stems from our daily habits and perspectives of the world.

Here are 7 essential habits that science has found of truly happy people:

1) Maintain Close Relationships

The general rule happy people follow is to have a set number of “close” relationships. These are people who you want to be close to and will share key moments of your life with.

Happy people take time out of their schedule for these people.

For some, they prefer to have three close relationships while others might prefer five. The number isn’t important as long as you are committed to the relationship at all times.

Whether it’s your mother, father, son, daughter, wife, or friend, you will want to have these relationships as a happy person.

2) Never Rush

Ever wondered why you rush? It has a lot to do with your inability to enjoy what is going on.

For example, why are you taking so long to finish that assignment? Why are you taking so long to read that book? In most cases, you simply don’t like the subject of your assignment or don’t appreciate how the book is unfolding.

Happy people don’t put themselves in positions where they have to rush simply because things have to be done. Instead, they make themselves busy in things they could spend all day on without getting bored.

If they like building dolls, they’re going to do this and spend all of their focus on this project.

3) Exercise

Yes, they exercise and spend time on their bodies.

It’s not only about one’s body image but about setting goals and meeting them. Happy people enjoy the rush they feel as plateaus are broken, and their body begins to reshape itself.

They enjoy going to the gym and pushing forward with their goals.

Of course, it’s not about going to the gym. It can be anything such as playing basketball, volleyball, squash, rugby or going for a jog out in the local park. This is up to you, but exercise is an excellent habit to have for a multitude of reasons.

4) Never Let External Events Dictate Happiness

These people refuse to let external events get in the way of their happiness.

It doesn’t matter whether you get a promotion or not. It doesn’t matter if that grad school you’ve always wanted to go to doesn’t accept your application. These are external events that are out of your control.

Happy people realize this and never let their happiness get impacted. They understand these events will come and go because that’s a part of life.

People who tie themselves to these events often run away from conflict because they’re terrified of it. They don’t want to face those harsh realities and do everything in their power to deflect. This leaves you in a state of continued unhappiness.

5) They Accept Discomfort

Happy people often accept or embrace discomfort. They don’t shy away from it nor do they give it importance.

In fact, if they’re not good at something, they’re going to take the time to learn it even if it is a challenge. This is what lets them continue to grow as individuals and become the best versions of themselves.

They’re content in accepting they’re imperfect but continue to strive for positive growth. It’s not about their mindset but about their day-to-day actions where change is made.

6) Never Leave Dreams Unfulfilled

Do you want to go to Greece? Perhaps, you have always wanted to sit in a sports car? What about skydiving?

Each person has unique dreams they’ve thought of at various points in their life.

Happy people don’t let those dreams stay in the back of their mind. In fact, they lay down a roadmap for how they’re going to follow through on those dreams because life is too short.

This is why they’re able to look back at their life and feel great about what they’ve done and the value it has brought to them. All of their dreams are fulfilled, and they remain content.
