Contrary to popular belief, we all have the ability to be happy. It’s a simply a state of mind that means appreciating what we have right now and living more in the present moment.

However, the idea of aiming for happiness seems futile to some.

But it is possible, you just need to make the required changes in your life.

The fact is, your level of happiness won’t change unless you make changes yourself.

Here are 5 things you refuse to change that keep you from being happy.

1) You don’t quit a job you hate

Spending 40 plus hours a week doing something that makes you miserable is going to affect your life. Stress, resentment, boredom, anger, frustration aren’t emotions that are conductive to happiness. 

We spend so much time working. It’s important that we actually enjoy it.

Yes, the economy isn’t great right now, but there’s still opportunity to find work that fulfils you.

2) You stay in a toxic relationship

Love can make your life a lot better, but it can also make it worse. When you’re attached to someone, it’s hard to let go – even if you know they’re making you unhappy.

A toxic relationship might mean that you argue too much, and that there’s a lack of respect. But if you’re partner doesn’t respect you, your relationship won’t grow and you won’t be able to trust them.

Have a hard think about whether the relationship you’re in is actually improving your life. Because if it isn’t, you’re better off flying solo.

3) You’re not getting rid of negativity in life

Just like above, whether it’s a negative friend, or habit, it’s time to let go of it.

Negative friends can make you question yourself and your ambitions. They don’t want you to grow because it’s a threat to the way they see the world.

And negative habits are habits that aren’t improving your life.

Think logically and make a pact with yourself to cultivate habits and relationships that make you feel better about life. 

4) You let doubt and fear keep you stuck

We all have self-limiting beliefs. If may be because of past failures or the way you grew up. But it’s time to understand whether these fears are helping you live a better life.

I guarantee that the more you embrace failure and getting out of your comfort zone, the more you will grow.

5) You put off the hard choices for “another day”

It’s easy to get yourself stuck in a rut where you’re “okay” with how things are going and you leave big decisions for later.

But that later never comes around and you’re simply avoiding making hard decisions.

We’re not going to live forever and we’re not guaranteed a moment past right now. Today is the day to make the changes you know you need to make.

Nothing in life is worth it if it comes easily. Life has many obstacles and it takes time to change your life to make yourself happy.

But life is too short to settle. We’re all capable of being happy, we just need to take action.
